Our Vision and History

/files/Headshots/Myers.jpg What an incredible journey it has been to be part of the founding of a Christian school! As I reflect back over the years, I can see God’s hand in so many areas that have prepared Dayspring Christian Academy for this new phase in its growth and development. Great things are happening in the areas of staff development, facilities, and course offerings. We are poised for our best years yet as we mature in the special calling God has ordained for this school.

It all started in 1986, when the Lord began planting the vision for Dayspring in my heart. At first I had to ask, “
Does Lancaster County really need another Christian school?” I was well aware of the strong presence of Christian education in our area and wanted to be sure that another school would not duplicate what was already available and thriving. As I searched the Lord’s heart and mine, I realized that He had a very unique mission for this new school. Much of this distinction lies in what is called “The Principle Approach.”

The Principle Approach to American Christian Education
Nearly four centuries ago, a group of pilgrims landed on the shores of North America “for the glory of God and advancement of the Christian faith,” according to William Bradford in Of Plymouth Plantation. Their highly developed Christian character and their commitment to excellence in every area of life laid the foundation of a civil government based on biblical principles. During the 200 years that followed, a republic was formed that grew into the greatest nation the world has ever known. Primary among reasons for this success was the prevailing method of education at the time, after which the Principle Approach is modeled. The success of this classical Christian method can be seen in the fact that by the time of the Declaration of Independence, the literacy rate ranged from 70% to virtually 100% across a large segment of the population—something the world had never seen. If this nation, or any other, desires growth and prosperity, much will depend on the quality of character of its people and the values they hold dear, and how well these are passed on to succeeding generations.

The Principle Approach has been revived in recent decades for the purpose of restoring
America to her Christian heritage and standard of excellence. By educating ourselves and our children in the biblical principles that formed our nation and affect every aspect of our lives, we will once again see America as “one nation, under God.”

Principle Approach schools are being established internationally in response to Christ’s great commission to “disciple the nations.”  The same biblical principles that formed the world’s first Christian constitutional federal republic can renovate any nation’s government and institutions that embrace and implement this truth.

Dayspring educates children from developmental kindergarten through grade 12. We are having a distinct and lasting effect upon our community and our nation. Our mission is to assist parents in providing a wholly Christian education for their children. As you work your way through this website, I believe you will see the difference that a Dayspring education makes. Please call and make an appointment to arrange your personal tour, and may God richly bless you and your family.
