What is your name? Bernie Day
What do you teach? Old Testament Survey – 7th grade
How many years have you taught at Dayspring? The 2018-2019 school year is my 20th year.
What do you appreciate the most about the Principle Approach? Rather than just bringing some Scripture alongside of our academic lessons, the Principle Approach challenges us as teachers and students to discern the Biblical principles inherent already in every subject we teach.
What do you see in your students that is most encouraging? For the most part, it is gratifying to see students’ desire to learn emanating from a genuine relationship with Christ.
Why do you love teaching at Dayspring? Dayspring’s staff reflects men and women who have a deep abiding faith in Christ that is evident in their love for Christ and their students.
How do you teach a biblical worldview in your classroom? Discovering the Biblical principles which are evident in every subject and comparing, contrasting/giving application against the worldly, secular worldview makes it easy to distinguish the difference.
What do you think most students appreciate about your class? I believe my students generally and genuinely know that I care about them. As the adage says, “I don’t care how much you know until I know how much you care!”
What is unique about you, your talents, or interests that you bring to the classroom? I believe God called me to “make disciples.” It has been my desire to lead students in that direction by giving first-hand evidence that I, myself, am a disciple of Christ.
What have you seen in your students over the years that has touched your heart the most? I am blessed to be able to say without reservation that my students know that I love them sincerely, and knowing this, I believe they will take this knowledge with them for their lifetimes.
