Meet the Teacher: Holly Guion
What is your name? Holly Guion
What do you teach? I am the aide in 2nd grade
How many years have you taught at Dayspring? The 2018-2019 school year is my 3rd year working at Dayspring, but my 7th year as parent at Dayspring.
What do you appreciate the most about the Principle Approach? I love being able to pray with the students when they need guidance, encouragement, or aren’t feeling well. It is great to be able to use God’s Word as the foundation for teaching the children to discern right from wrong.
What do you see in your students that is most encouraging? I find it encouraging that the children at Dayspring speak so freely about God. They have a passion for pleasing God as well as their teachers.
Why do you love teaching at Dayspring? I love working at Dayspring because I love encouraging the children academically as well as spiritually.
How do you teach a biblical worldview in your classroom? We use the principal of individuality when dealing with the children and helping them to understand each other better, realizing that each student has different strengths and needs. Taking the time to get to know each children on a more personal level is critical for a successful classroom. Also teaching the children to have grace with each other when a mistake has been made and most importantly to realize we all make mistakes and to have grace with themselves. I also instill in the children that while we all have God’s grace we must also take responsibility for our own actions- not those of others.
What do you think most students appreciate about your class? What I think children appreciate most about my classroom is having a structured environment. I make sure the children are on task during class and support those who may be struggling with their work. I encourage the children to do their best and reassure them that it is okay to ask for help when they need it being careful not to let them become too dependent on my one on one assistance. Seeing them grow in their confidence is amazing! I make them all feel loved and secure in the classroom so they can flourish in their work.
What is unique about you, your talents, or interests that you bring to the classroom? I started out at Dayspring as a parent enrolling my 3 boys. I started volunteering in my children’s classrooms because the school is such an encouraging godly environment that I wanted to be part of it with my children. That eventually led to me working in 2nd grade as the full time aide. I love to make the children smile and bring them joy almost as much as they bring to me.
What have you seen in your students over the years that has touched your heart the most? What has touched my heart the most is hearing the children praising Jesus during chapel and class devotions. They sing with all their hearts. I also love when the children greet me with hugs and share whatever is on their minds and in their hearts. It is wonderful when I make those close connections and I build that trust with them. I also love when a child has a personal breakthrough with something they have been struggling with. We rejoice in those victories together!
