What is your name? Melanie Stoltzfus

What do you teach? 4th grade

How many years have you taught at Dayspring? The 2018-2019 school year is my second year in 4th grade. Prior to that, I taught preschool for two years at Dayspring.

What do you appreciate the most about the Principle Approach?  I love how the Principle Approach connects all of learning together for the students under one umbrella of God’s truth.  I love how it challenges students to think and reason from a Biblical perspective.

What do you see in your students that is most encouraging?  I love seeing students taking risks and standing in front of their peers to recite a poem or give a persuasive speech, especially when it is outside their comfort zone.  I love seeing them apply what they are learning to life outside the classroom.

Why do you love teaching at Dayspring?  The school is like a family, both among families of the students and among the faculty. Teaching here helps me to grow spiritually!

How do you teach a biblical worldview in your classroom?  I teach that God’s truth and character can be found in all areas of life and subject matter, whether it’s in a study of the intricate details of a flower, or the complex steps of a math problem.

What do you think most students appreciate about your class?  I think my students enjoy the hands-on experiences I strive to provide for them such as a field study to Philadelphia,  experiments in science, and special celebration days (Pirate Day as the culmination of Treasure Island, and Mexico Day as the culmination of our study of Mexico, for example).

What is unique about you, your talents, or interests that you bring to the classroom?  I feel that I provide a patient, loving atmosphere in the classroom.  I love to bring out the unique gifts of each student.  I also have a passion for world missions and travel, which I love to share with the students.

What have you seen in your students over the years that has touched your heart the most?  I love when I see students who said “I can’t do that” be able to overcome and succeed!

At Dayspring Christian Academy, we are committed to raising up the next generation of Christian leaders who acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus Christ in every area of life, demonstrate a biblical worldview, become citizens of excellence in Christian character and scholarship, and aid in the restoration of America’s biblical foundation.
