What is your name? Ruth Hook

What do you teach? 1st grade

What is your educational background? I have taught preschool, kindergarten and first grade since 1976. I have an undergraduate and a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education.

How many years have you taught at Dayspring? The 2021-2022 school year is my 10th year.

Why did you decide to become a teacher? I felt called and equipped by God to teach young children. I enjoy them and the interaction with families of young children.

What do you appreciate the most about the Principle Approach? That Scripture is the starting point of all we teach and that the principles permeate all lessons and activities.

What do you see in your students that is most encouraging? The diversity and creativity in the way my students think and express as well as their respect and desire to please. I love the honesty of young children and their humor.

Why do you love teaching at Dayspring? It is a close community and part of a local community. Even though it is a small school body, Dayspring has a Godly and excellent leader.

How do you teach a biblical worldview in your classroom? I teach a biblical worldview beginning with God’s incredible creation of an amazing world. Daily devotionals that relate God’s creation to all of life is a perfect springboard for all of our subjects through the day. Keeping God’s word before our students and allowing them to see how much I love God’s word helps students understand how God cares about all aspects of life, in a way first graders can understand.

What do you think most students appreciate about your class? I think students enjoy learning when we provide a variety of ways to present lessons. They enjoy movement and activities that help them engage in learning.

What is unique about you, your talents, or interests that you bring to the classroom? I love the outdoors. I like giving students the opportunity to enjoy God’s creation. I like to rake leaves and jump in them, go sledding on the hill out back, help students enjoy a wet walk in the rain or a good scavenger hunt. We learn so much from nature.

What have you seen in your students over the years that has touched your heart the most? I love the unique thoughts expressed, singing praise together, when the students engage in helping me and others. I never grow tired of hearing children pray! Praying for our class soldier is a way that we can help students care for those who serve our country. I love the things that come to the heart of a first grader when they pray.

At Dayspring Christian Academy, we are committed to raising up the next generation of Christian leaders who acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus Christ in every area of life, demonstrate a biblical worldview, become citizens of excellence in Christian character and scholarship, and aid in the restoration of America’s biblical foundation.
