During the 2020-2021 school year, 40% of sophomores, 67% of juniors, and 67% of Dayspring seniors are taking college-level courses.
Dayspring partners with Cairn University in order to offer students the opportunity to begin to build their college transcript while completing high school. Students who take dual credit courses can earn discounted college credits, so there is great potential for savings while further preparing students with college-level thinking and coursework. Cairn University is fully accredited, so student credits may be used there or transferred to other accredited colleges and universities. Not all colleges accept dual credit and/or Advanced Placement® scores, so students should check with their colleges of choice to be certain of their policies.
The dual credit relationship between our school and Cairn University gives our high school students the opportunity to earn college credit before they ever arrive on campus! These dual credit courses include:
Every dual credit course is also an AP course with the exception of Honors Chemistry. AP Courses available are:
Students can pay for dual credits and take an AP exam in the same course with the idea that his/her college might accept one not the other. As previously stated, not all colleges accept dual credit and/or AP scores, so students should check with their colleges of choice to be certain of their policies.
The total number of dual credits through Cairn University being earned during the 2018-2019 school year is 172 for 55 courses among the 27 students who have signed up. During the 2017-2018 school year, the total number of AP courses our juniors/seniors took was 67, which averages out to almost 2 courses per student (1.9) and a total of 201 credits.
Further, in the Class of 2018, 12 of our 22 Seniors took at least one AP exam and/or received dual credits. In the Class of 2017, 10 of 19 Seniors took at least one AP exam and/or received dual credits.
Dayspring Christian Academy is also pleased to offer these additional opportunities for dual enrollment! If you are interested in learning more about dual enrollment, please contact Donna Hurley at email@example.com.
