What is your name? Ed Sykes is my name.

What do you teach? Currently, I teach AP Psychology and AP Statistics

How many years have you taught at Dayspring? I started teaching at Dayspring Christian Academy in the Fall of 2002 within days of retiring from Armstrong as an engineer. I wanted to do more than work around the house or be a consultant in industry. So, I volunteered to teach for a week in the spring while another teacher went on the field study to Plymouth. The rest is, as they say, history. In the intervening 17 years, I have taught History, Calculus, Algebra 1 and 2, Computer Science, Science, Christian Doctrines, Accounting, and Physics.

What do you appreciate the most about the Principle Approach? I think the requirement for students to reason and to communicate their insights and beliefs builds skills for life. This ability to communicate is what sets our students apart from other school graduates.

What do you see in your students that is most encouraging? It is encouraging when students demonstrate their Christian Character in their work, plus the way they deal with each other and life in general.

Why do you love teaching at Dayspring? At Dayspring, we are free to express our Christian faith in an open manner.

How do you teach a biblical worldview in your classroom? I integrate the use of Scriptural wisdom in my plans and look for opportunities to illustrate God’s guidance and plans for us.

What do you think most students appreciate about your class? I always have plans and know what outcomes are expected for the students. I also try to make learning fun with anecdotes from my own life.

What is unique about you, your talents, or interests that you bring to the classroom? I have the experience and maturity in managing a family, having used my education to work in business and understanding the importance of reaching out to the next generation.

What have you seen in your students over the years, that has touched your heart the most? I appreciate seeing students achieve their goals.

At Dayspring Christian Academy, we are committed to raising up the next generation of Christian leaders who acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus Christ in every area of life, demonstrate a biblical worldview, become citizens of excellence in Christian character and scholarship, and aid in the restoration of America’s biblical foundation.
