Dayspring Christian Academy teaches students to reason from Biblical principles and apply them to every area of life. One way we do this is through the 4R method – Research, Reason, Relate, Record. The following essay is a result of this informative and transformative methodology. Jaylani wrote this piece as a concluding assignment for a 4R biblical word study on the word study in our sixth grade Study Skills class.

Study is a word I use a lot, but I never took time to realize what it really means. To me, studying means: to take the time to understand, learn to understand what God has to say.

As I studied the word study, I realized something, something I was doing wrong. I was all caught up in getting good grades that I forgot who I was doing it for.

When I read Colossians 3:23 and 3:17 it reminded me that I am working hard to get good grades for God and only Him. I learn so I can be able to share the Gospel, whether it is through books I write or being in the medical field telling people about God.

Saving people in more than one way (physical and spiritual) is how I want to live. I want to be more than I think I can be. I want to be everything God made me to be so that’s why I study.
